WPA posters
I'm finally getting around to making my entry for the Let's Save Michigan poster contest (due monday, ahh!) and so I was looking at a bunch of WPA posters, and holy cow, they knew how to make a poster back then. Anyway, DID YOU KNOW that the Library of Congress has a ton of these posters archived, and you can access them online?? And that also you can download high res tiffs of the posters right from the website?? Probably everyone who took that tradigital class already knows this but it's a new and exciting resource for me.
I've got about a million tabs of posters up right now, and I totally recommend taking a look through for yourself here.
Here are some ones that I like because they are sensational. AND THE TYPE! Beautiful! Holy cow.

More relics
OK after this I'll start posting drawings again I swear. Two more scans from the piles.
England's answer to the Cheez-it. I can't believe I saved this cheese snack wrapper. That's something a crazy person would do. I just remember eating a lot of these and thinking it was really funny. I look at something like this and think, "Baked Mini Cheddars?" Where's the hyphen? Where's the unnecessary "Z"? Where's the exclamation mark? Oh Europe, I think, you have so much to learn.
But then also, this exists, and I go back to liking Europe more.
I bought this at like, Piccadilly Circus.

pile
I'm cleaning my studio and organizing some of the PILES. I keep a lot of papers. Here are some gems I found.
This is a picture of me from high school. I was on a field trip in Canada.
Here is a paper that I must of picked up off the floor of the library at some point or found in a book.
"OutReach Dept.
Returning all but one book delivered yesterday May 25 - One book on reaching a hundred, I have already reached 93 of those years, do you really think I need a book on how to reach the remaining - I am utterly discusted with your selection."
I guess when you're 93 you don't have time to take any shit from library employees.

paper dolls
At the DIA we've had Paper Dolls as a drop-in workshop for the last two months. It's a pretty good workshop, you get lots of cool supplies like fabric and string and you can dig through the decorative paper scrap pile to find some gems. It's occationally hard to sell to boys and middle schoolers, but all the COOL boys and middle schoolers dive in and make some pretty sweet things.
I made a few dolls using the templates we provide, but I left those at the museum for samples. Today was the last day of the workshop so I made these two, they're on a date, I think they like each other.
I don't remember ever playing with paper dolls as a kid, but I sure do like cutting and gluing.

I took a break from the Hallway Show but I'm back on the wagon now.

New website
Also, I made a portfolio website. A real one where I have to pay to host it and everything. It's costing me 5$ dollars a month.
To break even, all I have to do hold back once a month when I feel like buying one of the following things:
1 footlong submarine sandwich
1 hot and ready pizza
2 40 oz beverages
5 junior bacon cheeseburgers
We all have to make sacrifices to be the best.

I made it with a thing called indexhibit. It's pretty cool, I'm sure you've seen sites built with it before. It's a little bit of a plague and it might become the comics sans of minimalist webdesign. BUT. Once I figured out how to load it onto the internet, which is always a nightmare for me, it was a really easy system to work with, and uploading images takes about 2 seconds which is great, and I like how clean and organized it is. I'm going to play around more with it but I've been at this all day and I'm pretty tired.
